Tendulkar, Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, boxing champion Mike Tyson of the US and Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer are part of the global campaign Dubai Cares, which focusses on providing education for underprivileged children.
Sachin Tendulkar is greeted by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The campaign was launched on September 29 and so far collections have exceeded Dirham 200 million (60 million US dollars).

Sachin Tendulkar’s Opus Experience, a book which has master blaster’s signature, fetched Dh 300,000 (US$ 81,690).
The Manchester United Opus Experience, a sports publication with historical moments of the club’s history, was auctioned for Dh 5 million (US$ 1,361,507).
The previous record bidding for a sports publication was Dh 4 million (US$ 1,089,205)

The campaign hopes to bring together sportspersons from all over the world to interact with schoolchildren, local residents, young cricketers, footballers and communal groups, to further boost this humanitarian cause.
It targets the sports sector, including athletes, stars at the UAE, regional and international levels along with the general public.

Maha govt. to recommend Tendulkar for Bharat Ratna

The Maharashtra government will convey to the Centre that master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who scored a landmark double ton against South Africa, be honoured with the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.
“We will ask the central government to award Bharat Ratna to Sachin, who has mesmerised cricket lovers the world over,” deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal said.
“Even cricketers around the globe are saying Sachin has attained a stature higher than that of legendary Sir Don Bradman,” Bhujbal told reporters.
The state government has proposed to set up a museum devoted to Sachin Tendulkar, he said.
“The museum will showcase the glorious life and career of the great batsman and will serve as an inspiration to the young generation,” Bhujbal said.
Sachin became the first cricketer to cross the 200-figure mark in one-day internationals.

Thackarey: Sachin is already a Bharat Ratna

After brickbats, it is now bouquets for cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar from the Shiv Sena .
Sachin’s double hundred against South Africa in Gwalior has not only silenced his critics, but clean bowled the Shiv Sena, which had taken on the iconic batsman over his ‘Mumbai for all’ remark.
“Hundred crore people of this country have already crowned Sachin as Bharat Ratna,” Sena chief Bal Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Samana’.
“Shivaji Maharaj used to vanquish Moghuls on battlefield. Similarly, Sachin is a warrior on cricket battlefield. Such warriors are born only in Maharashtra ,” Thackeray said.
“Shivaji wielded the sword. Similarly, Sachin wields the bat,” the editorial said.
“Sachin does not need anyone’s recommendation to be awarded Bharat Ratna. Twitter in India: Are you following the god of cricket?

MUMBAI, India — A cricket star took India by storm last week when he joined Twitter and began racking up followers at the rate of almost 4,500 an hour. Within the first 24 hours, Sachin Tendulkar’s following reached almost 80,000, sparking a media frenzy and countless tweets about the so-called god of cricket joining the social networking site.
Local Indian publications pounced on the story, and the following day, the Mumbai Mirror splashed across its front page: “Sachin Breaks Record With Tweet Nothings.”
Everything from which personal photographs he uploaded to how his follower statistics compared to other Indian celebrities (he outdid Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s day one) became fodder for an article.
The reaction stems from India’s obsession with cricket, Tendulkar and, increasingly, social media. “India’s love for cricket verges on the pathological,” Jason Overdorf wrote in GlobalPost in March.
